Voting early, more often: The rise of early voting in person at Australian elections
Since 2002 an ever growing number of Australians has cast a pre-poll vote, also known as an early vote in person, before election day, making early voting in person the fastest growing trend in Australian electoral participation. 30 percent of eligible electors cast a pre-poll vote at the 2013 federal election. In Victoria, there has been a 250 percent increase in early voting in person since 2006. This project uses multiple methodologies to analyse the implications of this trend for Australan electoral administration and practice, based on evidence from 11 Victorian, NSW and federal elections.
